“How Curious Everything Looks” Part of the Demuth Museum’s 2021 Invitational. This years theme is “ Illustrations and the stories that inspire them” My inspiration was T.H. White’s Arthurian novel, The Once and Future King. You may recall Disney’s Sword in the Stone- a movie about the education of young Wart at the hand of Merlyn the Magician. Through the eyes of the animal world Arthur learned the power of war, love and loss. Here on this rock wall with his upturned face and brave stance, my nephew Spencer summons the image of a young King looking to cast enlightenment on the dark ages and be hopeful about the future.
